Review: bakerdays

The newest venture in my life, and the one that seems to be taking up a lot of my time (not that I’m complaining!) is my face painting business, Okie Dokie Face Painting. With it being very new (May this year) I’m looking for unique and fun ways of promoting it to the wider community therefore, when bakerdays contacted me about their letter box gift cakes, it was like a little lightbulb turned on above my head.

Logo SmallI’ve worked with bakerdays a few years ago when I ordered a cake for my Toddler Halloween Party so I knew I was getting a quality product to promote my business with. The process is simple, pick a design or upload a photo (in my case it was my business logo) and pick a flavour. In m opinion, this is the most difficult part of the whole thing! How do you decide between a tradition sponge or a rich chocolate chip, a lovely lemon drizzle or a fabulous fruit cake? Gluten free? Yep they have that covered! Dairy free? That too! bakerdays really do have every occasion and need met!

Previously I had tried the chocolate chip and it had been delicious but given the summer weather, I decided to go for something lighter and opted for a lemon drizzle. Strangely, since I had had my daughter, my tastes have changes and I’m enjoyed “fresh” flavours a lot more!

The great thing about the letter box gift cakes is that there is no waiting in for a package to be delivered or worrying that the person you’re sending it to won’t be in to receive it. They are designed and packaged with a trip via Royal Mail in mind. A sturdy, perfectly sized box where the cake lies within a great quality tin that can be used again and again.

I was super excited to see my lovely logo on a cake and I was really impressed by the quality of the image on the cake. It was bright, clear and colourful. Obviously the first thing I did was share in on my Facebook page and Instagram accounts!

It wasn’t long before I was tucking into it! The lemon cake was just as tasty as the chocolate cake I had sampled and the icing was sweet and soft without being sickly. In fact, I could have polished off the entire cake in one sitting if I had tried…but I held back – ha ha!

As I have mentioned in other posts about my face painting, I wouldn’t have this love/obsession for it without the help and support of Donna from Yorkshire Face Paints and the online community surrounding her. Her and her ever growing group of students/customers provide encouragement, advice and help that is invaluable so when she announced it was YFP’s first birthday, I had another lightbulb moment – I would send her a bakerdays Letter Box Gift Cake! I uploaded the YFP logo and picked the design with golden stars on as she had a promotion for the birthday which included golden envelopes. I went for the “safe” option of the traditional sponge cake and within a day, the cake was through her door. It was an instant hit and Donna posted a picture on the YFP Facebook page. People commented on what a thoughtful idea it was. It’s so unexpected to receive a cake through the post that it’s a lovely surprise for the recipient.
