Welcome to October’s Favourites! Autumn is well and truly here and, as we got to the end of the month, the temperature as certainly dropped. How did you all get on with the clock change? Sienna woke at 5am the first morning but then settled into it okay after that!
HAIR AND BEAUTY
Since having kids, my hair has definitely changed. The most annoying, that I moan about regularly on my Instastories, is my post partum hair loss on my hair line. The regrowth regularly looks like I’ve been electrocuted. One of the best things is that it is far less greasy. I used to have to wash my hair every day and if I was going out at night, I’d wash it in the morning and in the evening. Now I wash it every other day usually, unless there is a special occasion. Mostly I will wash it on a night and plait it up so it’s wavy, then it will last me three days with the help of Batiste Dry Shampoo. It’s most Mums staple product isn’t it? I particularly like the Blush one and the Volumising one because as much as my hair is less greasy, it will always be flat.
I love putting my make up on. It’s a time that I get a bit of peace usually. I go through phases of wearing more/less. I’ve never been one for contouring. I don’t get it. I don’t dare try it for fear of looking like someone from Ru Paul’s Drag Race but I do like a bit of highlighter. I use L’Oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light Base Primer and then add
some Bare Minerals, Mineral Veil over the top. You literally need the tiniest amount so the £22 pot lasts forever!
I’ve decided to add this category in as I always have favourite outfits that I like wearing, even if I haven’t bought anything new. I wrote a post on my Instagram about not liking coats and then remembered that my main winter coat was about five or six years old so decided to treat myself to a new one. I adore this Grey Parka from Next. The hood is huge and fluffy, the fit in really flattering but it’s also thick and warm. I don’t have a full length picture of me in it yet, so here’s the picture from the Next website.
My other favourite thing to wear this month is a pinafore! I didn’t
think they would suit me but I’ve found one from New Look that I adore and I really like on myself…so much so I’ve bought it in burgundy and black. I bought a few long sleeved tops from Primark in Grey, White, Black and Teal which go perfectly underneath and they are only a few quid each.
We finished watching Bodyguard at the beginning of the month, oooh it was bloody good wasn’t it? That last episode, my husband and I sat in complete silence, staring intending at the TV. It was awesome. I’m unsure if anyone on in the UK hasn’t seen it, but if you haven’t, please watch it! You won’t regret it.
On “normal TV” we have started watching Killing Eve. Sandra Oh, from Grey’s Anatomy, plays a girl investigating a female assassin. It’s not quite as good as Bodyguard, in my opinion, but it is keeping me interested. Finally, on Netflix, Ric and I were so glad that Riverdale Season Three has started. Season One was so griping, Season Two started a little dodgy but then got good and Season 3 has started well. It’s a little “teen drama” and you have to take a few bits with a pinch of salt, but there are some beautiful people in it and some great storylines that keep you guessing. It’s actually based on the Archie comics!
I suppose the big adventure in October has been my girls break to Dublin. Two nights in the Irish city with three awesome ladies! I’m in the middle of writing a post about my favourite bits but I will say that I loved the atmosphere, the friendly people, the fact that I didn’t have to say “Get dressed!” a million times and I only had to carry a small handbag!
With it being half term at the end of October, we also managed a lovely family day at The Deep in Hull. This place is perfect for kids of all ages because its visually stimulating for babies and the huge rays, sharks and jelly fish fascinate the older children. Sienna could have happily sat and watched the colour fishes for hours…it’s tempting to install an aquarium in out living room!
Charlotte Louise Taylor has fully got into the Autumn vibes and her Instagram feed it full of gorgeous pictures of her three children with pumpkins, rustic leaves and her super cool fireplace – go look here! Her Day In The Life – Halloween vlog had me in awe of her. Three children, a successful blogger and managing pumpkin crafts and inventive meals, she deserves an award! Oh wait, but she did get one and it was well earned indeed. Charlotte has a performing arts background like me, she’s battled with her weight like me, she loves musicals like me and a whole host of other stuff which makes her vlogs a favourite for me. Plus, Little Stan makes my ovaries ache and she makes me laugh when she says her face looks like a foot or a potato on her Instastories!
Still trying to stick to Weight Watchers as much as possible, although life has got in the way a bit this month with birthday celebrations for family and friends, plus my trip to Dublin and Half term. I’m hoping to get back into it in November and have a good couple of weeks focused. I get to a certain weight every time and then struggle to get lower because my motivation disappears!
I made a delicious “Easy Chicken and Mushroom Pie” from their new ‘Comfort’ recipe book. I’ve never made a pie before and it had pre-made pastry and I bought a cooked chicken so it was super easy but it was also REALLY tasty! Some new favourites in our house are also the Sausage Pappardelle and Chicken, Chorizo and Broccoli Bake
Still reading Louise Pentland’s ‘Wilde Like Me’! HOWEVER, I’m pleased to report I’ve made good progress thanks to the flights to and from Dublin. My friends and I didn’t rebook seats so were sat separately and, as much as I love them, I was secretly glad to spend 40 minutes, in silence, reading. Bliss! I’m really enjoying it…maybe I’ll have it finished by the November favourites!
