Microblading – All You Need To Know!

Microblading – All You Need To Know!

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup. It involves a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles that are used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin. It is a technique that was discovered thousands of years ago. The superfine microblade creates lines in the skin that flow in the same direction as your own eyebrows then pigment is added to give the colour.

Why?

Why did I want Microblading? Well, to be honest, when I heard about it from one of my best friends who had it, I was horrified! It sounded painful (and I have tattoos!). However, her brows did look fab and it floated around in the back of my mind as an idea for the future. For years I’ve used Urban Decay Brow Box to colour my brows but they weren’t very well placed or shaped. I was too scared to try and draw more of them on as I thought I’d probably end up with slugs for brows. I’ve known Rebecca since I attended Baby Group with Lucas when he was a tiny baby so when she agreed to collaborate with me, I was excited to be finally sorting my eyebrows out!

Microblading is ideal for those who have sparse, or no eyebrows, gaps within their brows or very little structure or shape (me!). It helps to recreate the brow which gives the brow structure and definition. This was definitely what I was after. I liked the idea of waking up with actual eyebrows and not having to draw them on every day. As a busy working Mum, time is precious so if it made my getting ready time shorter then that was a bonus too.

First Appointment – Consultation and Patch Test

The full Microblading treatment is three appointments. The first is a consultation and patch test. One thing that was clear from my initial chat with Rebecca was that she really knows her stuff! She’s been trained in microblading for about ten years, so before it was even popular. She has developed her knowledge and understanding over the years. Now she’s a microblading expert and I immediately felt confident in her abilities and my future with amazing brows!

Consultation

We chatted about the type of brows I’d like – shape, colour, thickness, etc. I had looked on her Instagram and Facebook pages to give her an idea of what I liked and she advised me on what would be best for my face shape. Like everyone on my Instagram, my main question was “Will it hurt?” They use numbing cream and Rebecca was very reassuring saying she had even had some clients fall asleep during microblading! Fab, I might get a nap as well as great brows. The patch test required her to prick the back of my ear then rub some pigment in to check I wouldn’t have a reaction.

Second Appointment – Initial Treatment

This appointment is about two hours long. There was a lot of paperwork to fill in prior to the treatment and whilst I was filling it in, Rebecca applied numbing cream to give it time to work. Again, we went over shape and colour.

Rebecca spent a long time measuring up so that my brows were perfect for my face. It’s clear she loves what she does and also takes great pride in her work therefore I felt completely comfortable with her. The treatment itself was quite relaxing! It didn’t hurt. Occasionally it felt a little scratchy, like if someone has a sharp bit on their nail and they catch you. It wasn’t uncomfortable at all. In fact, it made me laugh because for the first few minutes I had to keep stopping Rebecca so I could blow my nose or sneeze because it kept making my nose tickle.

Once the lines have been made, Rebecca rubs pigment into them. Again, this wasn’t painful. Due to the type of brows I wanted, which were natural but quite defined on the tail, Rebecca advised that a mixture of microblading and machine methods would be most suitable. AFTER

I was so impressed and immediately glad that I had committed to having the treatment. It’s mental how much eyebrows can change your face. I couldn’t stop looking at them for the rest of the day, and the day after to be honest – haha! Following the appointment, you had advised not to get your eyebrows wet for two weeks while they heal. Rebecca gives you an aftercare pack with some ointment, cotton pads, and earbuds. The ointment is applied the evening after the treatment and the following morning then you just leave them to heal and keep them as dry as possible. I didn’t find the healing process too bad. They weren’t itchy and, as much as they scabbed, they were not massively flakey. No one noticed.

Touch Up Appointment

The final appointment is four weeks after the treatment. By this point, they are fully healed and it’s easier to see if they need any extra microblading. I knew that I wanted mine a little thicker (this shrink a bit when they heal) and darker. I’d had my hair coloured between appointments too so needed to match up. Rebecca totally agreed with me. Wisely she had said initially that it was better to do less and lighter first then add more as you can add but can’t take away. Honestly, this appointment smarted a little more. Probably because it’s going over fairly new scar tissue. Don’t be alarmed though, it’s not horrendous and bearable.

The Final Result

Microblading is perfect for those who want a more natural, softer looking brow. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am with the final result. The intention was that I’d be able to wear less makeup with more defined, shaped eyebrows and I am. I bought a light BB cream and wear that with some mascara and eyeliner for day to day makeup when I used to wear a lot more. I’ve had SO many compliments about them since I’ve had Microblading. I genuinely think I got the most DM’s I’ve ever had for one post/set of stories on Instagram! It was really lovely and made me feel extra confident with my new look.

Final

If you are fed up with your brows, I highly recommend microblading and, if you’re in the West Yorkshire area, you need to visit Beauty By Rebecca. The treatment itself is £235 so it’s not cheap but with Rebecca, you get professionalism, knowledge and unbelievable brows at the end of it. In my opinion, it’s worth every penny. Following this, all that is required is a top-up once a year so it’s very maintainable.
