My Pancake Filling Faves
True fact: Pancake Day is one of my favourite times of the year. A day to celebrate love – nah, do one! A day to celebrate pancakes – yaaasssss! That’s something I can get on board with! So I thought I’d share my pancake filling faves.
Pancakes for breakfast are a treat in our house that happen every now and then. I’m in charge of them. I always have been, I will let the kids help flipping because I have lovely memories of making pancakes with my step dad when I was younger but in general, I slave away at the oven whilst my husband, son and daughter enjoy them at the table which is covered with topping options to enjoy. I like cooking if it doesn’t involve a lot of fuss therefore I use the simple 3-2-1 method for the batter (It’s so easy to make I don’t understand anyone who buys the ready made “just add water” stuff) and so here are my pancake filling faves:
Golden Syrup
This is a classic in our family and will always be my favourite. I love Golden Syrup…it’s delicious on a lot of things (toast – yum!) but my favourite place for it is on my pancakes. It’s so good I don’t add anything else and just enjoy the sweet sugary goodness.

Banana and Nutella/Chocolate Spread
If we go anywhere that sells pancakes, like the German Christmas market, this is the filling I will always choose. A banana/chocolate combination is always a winner and it’s fruit, it’s one of your five a day!

Sugar and Lemon Juice
This is the standard, traditional pancake filling isn’t it? It’s one of those that I forget how nice it is until I have it. I don’t immediately gravitate to lemon flavoured things but the sweet and sour mix is delish!

Apple and Maple Syrup
Firstly, the apple has to be grated. It goes all juice and it soon tasty! I tend to go for a green apple like a golden delicious but any will do. I introduced my husband to this filling and it’s now his favourite. Maple Syrup is a little american but compliments the apple perfectly…the other option is a Toffee sauce – Toffee Apple – nom!

Jam
A smearing of jam and maybe a sprinkle of raspberries or strawberries – I’m drooling just thinking about it! I like berry jams the best, I don’t really like citrus things so marmalade or lemon curd are out for me.

Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? No savoury fillings for me! I don’t think I’ve ever had a savoury pancake, apart from the crispy duck ones at the Chinese! It just confuses my brain – pancakes are sweet! My Pancake Filling Faves are strictly a sugar zone!

mmmm these look so good! I have such a sweet tooth but the best pancake I ever had was savoury and I still lust over that pancake to this day as nothing can beat it. But nutella on pancakes gives it a good run for its money.
