Before you think I’m making a casual pregnancy announcement you can fear not! There are no more babies for the Roversi clan! However, I did want to share one of my favourite experiences whilst pregnant with Sienna. A pregnancy massage at Olive Massage in Wakefield.
My second pregnancy was definitely full of more aches and pains than my first. Adding to the discomfort was the combination of being older, having a toddler to run around after and the fact that Sienna turned out to be Chubby McChubster! Sleeping was also proving troublesome. I experienced vivid dreams and usually sleep on my front. The sleep deprivation began way before the newborn arrived. I didn’t want to complain. I realised how lucky I was to be carrying such precious cargo however my husband could see I was struggling! He suggested a massage (major husband points) and I had to agree!
I simply googled “pregnancy massages in Wakefield” and Olive Massage popped up, top of the list! A quick bit of research and I was booked in and very much looking forward to it!
Lucy, the owner of Olive Massage, began with an interest in massage over a decade ago. After a whiplash injury she felt dissatisfied with the level of care she got. Doctors, physiotherapists, acunturists, chiropractors and osteopaths were unable to ease her pain. Then she discovered deep tissue massage and the pain began to ease. After three sessions it was gone and Lucy was so impressed that she pursued a career in it.
On arrival at Olive Massage I was greeted by Lucy herself. I was led upstairs to a lovely serene room with low lighting and neutral tones. It smelt amazing! It was clear that she knew her stuff. Lucy explained how only natural oils could be used. Anything with chemicals or strong smells is not healthy for pregnant ladies.
My only question was “How do I lay down?!” as I couldn’t lie on my front like any other massage. Lucy explained how I should lay on my side and tilt forward a little to what was comfortable. She would be able to move around me and do the rest. She left me to strip down to my pants and arrange myself on the bed under some towels.
Personally, when I go for a massage, I like to not talk.
Anyone who knows me personally probably just fell off their chair at the idea of me not speaking. It’s true, I like to enjoy the peace and let my mind zone out. From being super chatty and welcoming, Lucy turned calm and soothing. She only spoke to me to ask if the pressure was suitable. I spent an hour feeling the knots, aches and pains ebb away.
Honestly, it was one of the best massages I have ever had! My husband will tell you that if you tickle my back or massage my shoulder I will immediately relax (and usually fall asleep!). Therefore, a professional massage is heaven to me. I’d been suffering with pains in my lower back and a lack of sleep due to being unable to get comfortable (I like to sleep on my front). That night I genuinely had THE BEST night’s sleep! I owe that that to Lucy who relaxed my body and my mind. I cannot recommend Olive Massage enough for your holistic treatments. Why Pregnancy Massage?
If you’re still not convinced, here are three reasons why massage is beneficial in pregnancy:
- Mental Health – the ‘feel good’ aspect
- Nurturing – receiving regular massage can be a great way to nurture your body in pregnancy and help you bond with your growing baby.
- Relief from pressure on joints, ligaments and internal organs.
